LRRMD carries out applied research on landslides disaster management and constantly improves her expertise in landslide hazard identification, risk evaluation, appropriate construction and land use practices, cost effective mitigation measures and real time landslide early warning and forecasting.
Current research projects
- Introduction of suitable remedies to stabilize already failed cut slopes and unstable slopes in Kalutara Administrative Division
- Landslide susceptibility of lateritic soil and appropriate mitigation methods
- Economical instrumentation in monitoring the slope movements and landslide early warning
- Computer based modelling of slope stability and rainfall data for real time early warning
- Development of morphometric parameterization model for landslide hazard zonation mapping
- Multivariate statistical analysis and refining the relative weights assigned for the causative factors used for landslide hazard zonation mapping
- Preparation of landslide disaster risk reduction plan in Bulathkohupitiya and Yatiyantota divisions
- Correlation of soil strength parameters and index properties of soil and their effectiveness for slope stability analysis
