A consultation meeting to strengthen the relationship and deepen the understating between the Japanese universities and JDS Special Program to NBRO scientists was held on Monday, 2nd Feb 2020 at the NBRO Auditorium with the participation of Professor Kenichi Matsui from Tsukuba University, Ms. Akiko Miyazawa - Country officer, JICE JDS Project Office and Ms. Sujeewa Gunawardane - Assistant Country Officer as special delegates and the NBRO senior staff.

Professor Matsui presented about the Master’s Program in Environmental Sciences conducted by the University of Tsukuba emphasizing how the course caters in fostering skills and knowledge of the students to become outstanding global environmental leaders. Further the delegation went into explaining how JDS applicants are evaluated and they inquired how the scholarship awardees are rewarded at NBRO upon their return.

Directors of NBRO requested the JDS to award fellowships not only for the environmental sciences but also for geotechnical engineering, landslide mitigation, materials engineering, disaster resilience building and human settlement areas.
