Landslide mitigation works under Package 1 and 2, of the Reduction of Landslide Vulnerability by Mitigations Project (RLVMMP) has been officially commenced with the participation of Secretary of Ministry of Defence and Secretary to State Ministry of National Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management, Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne on 17th December 2020 at following locations in the Ratnapura District;
- Ayagama Site located at Ayagama - Gawaragiriya Road
- Galaboda Site located between culvert 13/11 and 13th mile post of Ratnapura Wewalwatta B 391 Road at Galaboda
The Ratnapura District Secretary Mrs. Malani Lokupothagama, Director General of Disaster Management Centre Maj. Gen. (Retd) Sudantha Ranasinghe, Director General of National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) Dr. Asiri Karunawardena, Divisional Secretary (Ayagama) Mr. Neranjan Jayakodi, Project Director of RLVMM Project Mr. R M S Bandara with the project team and other relevant state officials were joined the event at Ayagama town.
At the Galaboda site, the Defence Secretary was welcomed by Divisional Secretary, Ratnapura Mrs. I.R.M.P.D. Ilukkumbura and Additional District Secretary Miss. G.D.L. Udaya Kumari. The Chairman of the Ratnapura Pradishiyashabawa, Mr. W D Sudath Dissanayake, members of Ratnapura Pradishiyashabawa, Mr. R Dharmakeerthi and Mr. B Priyantha also participated to the event at Galaboda landslide site.
This Project is carried out by NBRO under financial support of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Government of Sri Lanka for mitigation of 147 sites for reducing landslide vulnerability on communities, roads, schools & hospitals, railway line other government buildings and infrastructure in the landslide prone districts.
