The Meteorological Department has predicted that the heavy rainy situation will prevail throughout the week due to the turbulent nature of the Bay of Bengal. Accordingly, landslides and related ground instabilities are likely to occur in Badulla, Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Matale, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts and cut slope failures in Colombo and Gampaha districts as well as in the hilly areas of Kurunegala, Moneragala and Hambantota districts.

Hence, people living in above areas and road-users are advised to pay attention to landslide early warning messages updates issued by National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) and act accordingly. Residents of above areas also advised  to stay vigilant of their surroundings for development of landslide/failure symptoms such as cracks in the ground, ground subsidences, slanting trees, electric poles, fences, and telephone poles, cracks on the floors and walls of buildings, sudden appearance of springs, clogging or disappearance of existing springs etc.  If severe landslide signs are observed, promptly inform the relevant authorites and evacuate to a safer place to avoid the risks.

Due to prevailing weather conditions in the country, high rainfalls have been recorded from many districts. In consideration with the heavy rains, NBRO has issued Landslide Early Warning to the following Divisional Secretariat Divisions until 21:00hrs on 9^th November 2021.

Warning Level 3 – Evacuation (Red)
