 Environmental day workshop on “Importance of Air Quality Monitoring in assessing the air pollution risk”

 

 

Environmental Studies and Services Division held a workshop focusing on the World Environmental day on 11th June 2019. Mr.H.D.S.Premasiri, the Coordinator, Air Quality, Noise And Vibration; delivered a lecture on “Air pollution, effects and risk over Sri Lanka” covering wide subject areas such as air resources; air pollution; air pollutants and their contribution to air pollution in Sri Lanka; influences and consequences of air pollution; threats of the air pollution over Sri Lanka; actions which had been taken to control air pollution to improve urban air quality, and contribution of people towards minimization of the air pollution.

In his lecture, he announced the liability of humans towards the environment by stating that a man has to pay 38,640 rupees per day if air is not free available to have the daily requirement of O2 which the amount stands as 483 liters.

 As per the program another speech was given by Mr. Manoj Perera, Scientist Air quality section; to elaborate the monitoring process of mobile air quality unit on the topic of “Importance of Continuous Air Quality Monitoring Systems”. In his presentation he stated the importance of a Mobile Air Monitoring System and the benefits of it.
