12th November 2009 is a momentous and a very important occasion in the history of NBRO. The NBRO was established in 1984, and now have reached the age of 25 years. On 12th November, 2009 NBRO celebrates her Silver Jubilee at Hotel Hilton under the patronage of Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe, the Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights. NBRO is not an organization setup up her excellence only at the cutting edge of Research and Development but also serve the nation by providing consultancy services in different fields of disciplines to a wide range of customers.

National Building Research Organisation ( NBRO ) was born in 1984 which now ranks among the renowned Research and Development Institute in Sri Lanka.
The prime aim of the NBRO is to spread and promote culture of disaster prevention and safety through innovation in disaster education, research and training of human resources at all levels and by rendering highly specialized professional services at the cutting edge of science and technology.
Disasters wipe out developmental gains achieved over decades. Development can not be sustained unless the mitigation measures - step to reduce our vulnerabilities to disaster implemented in times. It is my sincere wish to emerge of NBRO as a ray of hope.

Reactivation of Peradeniya Landslide
Landslide studies & Servicess Division-
Removing unstable mass and preparation of protection berm
Reactivation symptoms of Peradeniya landslide area was observed on 13th and 14th 2009 by NBRO.
Warning massage was issued on 14th October 2009 by NBRO to DMC, District Secretary Kandy, Police Station, Peradeniya to take immediate actions.
Landslide occurred on 15th October 2009 at about 2.30 am with the rainfall of 80.3mm (As at Gannoruwa Agriculture Research Center).
Road was closed from Gannoruwa junction to Peradeniya bridge at the instructions by NBRO to Peradeniya Police.
Removing unstable boulders and soil was stated by NBRO on 15th October 2009.
Preparation of protection berm, access road to the slope and removing unstable boulders is in progress now.
Construction of protection berm up to 40m completed with 3 1/2m height.
