The research and development coordinating unit of the National Building Research Organisation conducted a workshop on research proposal writing for the researchers of NBRO under the Research and Development programme 2022. This workshop was aimed to develop the research paper writing skills of the researchers of NBRO. The programme was held on 19th January 2022 in Auditorium of State, Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management, as a half a day programme.

The workshop has been conducted by Prof. Udeni Nawagamuwa, Professor in Civil Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Prof. Terrence Fernando, Director, THINKlab, School of Science, Engineering and Environment, University of Salford, Prof. Bingunath Ingirige, Chair, Urban Resilience and Adaptation at the Centre for Disaster Resilience (CDR), School of the Built Environment, University of Salford, and Dr. Kaushal Keraminiyage, Reader, School of Science, Engineering and Environment, University of Salford.

Initially, Prof. Terrence and Prof. Nawagamuwa have given an overview of the research papers of the 11th Annual Research Symposium; specifically, prof. Terrence Fernando has explained the reflection on the research papers presented at the 11th Annual Research Symposium 2021. Then Prof. Udeni Nawagamuwa has given suggestions for improving research at NBRO. Dr. Kaushal and Prof. Bingunath focused on the area where researchers can improve their research paper writing abilities in the future. Dr. Kaushal focused on the reaching international standards in research publication and Prof. Bingunath presented on critical review of the literature. These have been more interactive and informative knowledge sharing sessions. Finally, Prof. Terrence explained his reflection on impact driven research.

This has been a great opportunity for the R & D coordinating unit to launch the R & D year calendar at the end of the workshop.

Nearly 60 participants from NBRO, Ministry, NDRSC, DMC, and Metrology Department have been taking part in the workshop through a hybrid approach. This session was an opportunity for the researchers to motivate their research writing skills.
