On the mornings of April 16th and 17th, 2024, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) commemorated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with a series of festive celebrations at their premises. Eng. (Dr.) Asiri Karunawardena, Director General of NBRO, led the staff in marking this cultural milestone with great enthusiasm.
The celebration kicked off on April 16th with the traditional 'New Year sweetmeat table,' beautifully adorned with a variety of traditional delicacies. This gathering not only showcased the rich cultural heritage but also symbolized the unity among the NBRO staff. The sweetmeat table served as a heartfelt expression of cultural heritage and togetherness.
Continuing the festivities, the ‘Aluth Avurudu Ulela’ was held on April 17th. This event was filled with joy and happiness, featuring colorful rituals and traditional New Year games, which brought together the staffers in a spirit of cultural unity. The celebration included awarding gifts and observing various festive activities that highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka.
Throughout both days, Eng. (Dr.) Karunawardena and other officials exchanged New Year wishes with the staff, reinforcing the spirit of community and mutual respect.
